A Whole Lot of Speculation

24 Therefore, they called a second time for the man who had been born blind and said to him, “Give glory to God. We know this man is a sinner.”25 The man answered, “I don’t know whether he’s a sinner. Here’s what I do know: I was blind and now I see.” 26 They questioned him: “What did he do to you? How did he heal your eyes?”27 He replied, “I already told you, and you didn’t listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples too?” 28 They insulted him: “You are his disciple, but we are Moses’ disciples. 29 We know that God spoke to Moses, but we don’t know where this man is from.”

In this chapter of John, we that there's a bunch of speculation going on. It came from some of Jesus' disciples and the Pharisees. The disciples wanted to know why the man was blind, likewise, the Pharisees wanted to know who healed him and how.

Just like the Pharisees, when people see you prospering or when they see you walking in favor, they have many questions. You know people will say, "oh how she get that" or "oh she thinks she's doing something now." The Pharisees kept trying to figure out how was the blind man healed. The blind man kept telling them that the man "Jesus" healed him. You can give the speculators the answers they're looking for, but they still won't be able to understand.

Once we start giving our recipe to success they don't try to hear that. They'll start downplaying your works, or they'll bring up your past. Right in verse 6, we see where his neighbors say, "Isn’t this the man who used to sit and beg?"

It was foretold in the Old Testament that the Messiah would come, but the Pharisees were so caught in their religious view that they didn't even recognize who the man "Jesus" was. They thought that since they ran with Moses, they were better than all. However, they failed to realize that Jesus was the Messiah and was sent from God.

Then the Pharisees had the nerves to tell the blind man that he couldn't tell them anything because he was born a sinner. This is the reason God sent Jesus so that He could save sinners. We all are sinners, yet Christ died for us.
